Singapore aims to slash its carbon emissions by 7-11 per cent below business-as-usual levels by 2020, when emissions are expected to hit 77.2 million tonnes.

To help achieve this target, Singapore yesterday unveiled a blueprint to tackle climate change through a whole-of-nation approach.

Launched by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is also chairman of the inter-ministerial committee on climate change (IMCCC), the National Climate Change Strategy 2012 (NCCS-2012) document outlines Singapore's projections for carbon emissions up to 2020, as well as its plans to reduce emissions to meet this target.

It also maps out the direction Singapore should take post-2020 to stabilise long-term emissions. The document includes building capabilities to adapt to the impact of climate change, harnessing green growth opportunities, and forging partnerships on climate change action.
