Guyana on Monday launched a report on the country's position to be taken at the Rio +20 Summit in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro next week.

Addressing the second multi-stakeholders consultative meeting in Georgetown, Environment and Natural Resources minister Robert Persuad said issues and discussions emanating from the summit will be added to the report to guide local policies in the future
Persaud said Guyana looks forward to progress at Rio and regardless of what happens there, the country will remain committed to all international agreements on climate change.

He added that Guyana will forge ahead with new international partners in pursuance of a green economy

Prime Minister Samuel Hinds said that Guyana has done much since 1992 with regard regulations, institutions and mechanisms, to advance the green economy which the country now pursues

He added that the stance Guyana has taken on climate change as the country heads to Rio, speaks to the new global human order advocated for by the late president Cheddi Jagan.

The national multi-stakeholder forum which is a follow on from the first stakeholder meeting also saw addresses by United Nations representative here Khadija Musa, presidential adviser Shyam Nokta and local coordinator for the Rio + 20 Summit Navin Chanderpaul.

President Donald Ramotar will head Guyana's delegation that will attend the summit next week.
