Al-Attiyah attends Berlin climate change conference

HE the Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority  Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, who is also the president of the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP18 ) attended the fourth ministerial meeting on climate change here yesterday.

 

He meeting was also attended by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and German Minister of  Environment Peter Altmire.

Merkel welcomed the ministers participating in the meeting and expressed hope that it would come out with positive results to serve the climate change topics.

She also praised the positive role of the climate change (COP18) conference which was held in Doha late last year under the chairmanship of HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, president of the conference, where many positive results had been achieved through negotiations, especially the extension of the Kyoto Protocol on Climate Change as well as the completion of the Bali Action Plan.

The two-day meeting will discuss a number of important issues on its agenda including the  preparations for the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP19) which will be held in Poland, at the end of the year.  It will also discuss the prospects of international policies on climate and environmental issues in the medium and long terms, and ways of participation of the private sector in efforts to improve international environmental policy.

HE al-Attiyah recently presided over the meeting of the  Executive Office of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to follow up the implementation of resolutions issued by the Doha Conference.

The opening session was also attended by Qatar's Ambassador to Germany Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed al-Khulaifi, and members of the delegation accompanying al-Attiyah.
