The majority of investors have boosted their committment to addressing climate change, and are making changes to their investment strategies based on climate risk assessments a report has found.

The report, conducted by Mercer found 83 per cent of asset owners and 77 per cent of asset managers view climate change as a material risk of oppourtunity in their investment portfolios.

More than half the asset owners said they conduct a climate risk assessment but only one quarter made any changes because of their assessment.

Stephanie Pfeifer, executive director of the European based Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change, said it was encouraging that investors had engaged with climate change.

"It is also important that investors embed climate risk assessments within investment decision-making processes, something they are now beginning to do," she said.

Australian investors are most engaged with climate change risks with 82 per cent of asset owners and 94 per cent of asset managers assessing risks, compared to 44 per cent and 84 per cent globally.
